Theodore M. Porter, a historian of science, is distinguished professor of history at the University of California, Los Angeles. Two of his books from Princeton University Press, The Rise in Statistical Thinking and Trust in Numbers, are being reissued this year with new prefaces. His most recent book is Genetics in the Madhouse: The Unknown History of Human Heredity (Princeton University Press, 2018).
