Mark A. Cane obtained his doctorate in meteorology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975. He is the G. Unger Vetlesen Professor of Earth and Climate Sciences in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics at Columbia, where he holds a joint appointment at the International Research Institute for Climate Prediction.
