In the summer of 2017, the Ionosphere Connection Explorer (ICON) is scheduled to launch into orbit around the Earth's equator. The satellite is designed to study the region of space called the ionosphere, where terrestrial and space weather meet. The interaction of solar wind with Earth's conditions creates a dynamic zone full of winds and charged particles. Disturbances in this region can disrupt radio communications and GPS signals.
