Steven N. Ward received a Ph.D. in geophysics from Princeton University in 1978, where he specialized in seismic wave theory. After postdoctoral stints@Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Harvard University, he joined the research faculty of the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1984. Ward creates computer simulations of dynamic Earth processes such as earthquakes, tsunamis and tectonic deformations.
