
Craig McClain
Craig McClain is assistant director of science for the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center in Durham, N. C., which facilitates cross-disciplinary research on fundamental questions in evolutionary science. He has conducted deep-sea research for 13 years and has participated in dozens of expeditions in the Antarctic and the most remote regions of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. An author of more than 30 research articles, McClain focuses on the ecological and evolutionary drivers of marine-invertebrate biodiversity and body size, mostly in deep-sea systems.
