To the Editors:

Despite the cover story on the plight of the elephants of Africa, the species depicted on the January–February cover is the Asiatic elephant. You can note the distinctive convex back silhouette of the Asian elephant, versus the concave silhouette of the African elephant.

Editors’ note: We regret that the species of elephant depicted on the cover was not the one intended. The image source did not specify the species and was clustered with other images of African elephants, so the difference was unfortunately overlooked. Dr. Salerno and his colleagues were not responsible for the oversight.
