Margaret C. Jacob is Distinguished Professor of History at the University of California at Los Angeles. She is the author of, among other books, Strangers Nowhere in the World: The Rise of Cosmopolitanism in Early Modern Europe (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2006) and Scientific Culture and the Making of the Industrial West (Oxford University Press, 1997).
