Gamma Ray Flash Stuns Orbiting Telescope

NASA's Swift telescope was temporarily blinded by a flash of extremely bright gamma-ray light that scientists say likely signaled the birth of a black hole 5 billion light-years away.

In other news from space, Europe's Rosetta space probe has flown past an asteroid called Lutetia, returning a stream of scientific data for analysis, including some close-up images.

And, finally, a new study suggests that dark matter could build up inside our sun, if the mysterious matter happened to take a specific form. If so, it could alter how heat moves inside the sun.
