Ancient Meteorite Rich in Organic Compounds

It turns out that the Murchison meteorite, which fell to Earth 40 years ago, contains millions of carbon-containing molecules, according to a German research team. The space rock is thought to be older than the sun.

In other news from space, the Cleveland Plain Dealer looked at tantalizing hints of dark matter found by sensors in an old Minnesota iron mine. Scientists say the impact of two particles from space could be evidence of dark matter.

Astronomers use bright type 1a supernovas like cosmic mileposts to measure dark energy, and a new study may promote understanding of how these supernovas form. This could be critical for future, more precise dark energy measurements.

The space shuttle Endeavor landed safely Sunday in Florida after astronauts completed a successful mission that, among other things, involved installing a seven-windowed cupola on the International Space Station. The new addition will allow crew members to keep an eye on colleagues during spacewalks.
