Abstract:
Scientific publications rates are one measure of the scientific productivity of various nations. In surveying journals listed by the Science Citation Index for the period from 1991 until 1998, the authors found that 85 percent of all scientific papers originated from Western Europe, North America and the Asiatic region. They discuss changes in publication rates over the period in various regions of the world and look at patterns of collaboration and their effect on the ability of scientists in developing nations to be published.
