- The World Science Podcast: Rethinking Engineering
The global energy crisis will be the focus of a Saturday afternoon symposium November 14 during the 2009 Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and International Research Conference in The Woodlands, Texas (near Houston). Sigma Xi invited members and the public to submit white papers presenting solutions to some aspect of the energy crisis. Nine papers are now posted online (along with a variety of other resources and blog entries). There, you can read, rate, download and discuss the papers. Please note that we have made some upgrades to the energy site! If you had difficulty registering on the site before, this problem is now solved. In this week’s World Science Podcast, we hear from two American engineers who learned some surprising lessons in Nicaragua. Then environmental engineer Anu Ramaswami tells us why technology must be used within a social and cultural context. Join our online discussion with Ramaswami at The World Science Forum. American Scientist Update alerts you to new content and other news from American Scientist, an illustrated bimonthly magazine of science and technology published by Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society. Complimentary copies of the magazine and electronic copies of articles are available to journalists on request. Media contact: Charles Blackburn, cblackburn@sigmaxi.org. In even-numbered months, American Scientist Update describes each new issue of American Scientist.
