More than 100 years after chromatin became a central topic of cell biology, much still remains hidden about its mechanisms and functions. Recent work at the superstructural, macromolecular and molecular level has begun to reveal the surprising dynamism of chromatin and the centrality of chromatin metabolism to the regulation of the cell.
