The Other Evolution Wars
Creationists have long battled with geologists and biologists, but they have only lately taken on physicists and cosmologists
Although creationists and proponents of "intelligent design" have doggedly attacked the teaching of biological evolution for decades, until recently they have made little effort to counter the developing ideas of cosmologists on the origin of the universe. That marked difference may stem, at least in part, from the special position physicists held in American society after the Second World War. This article, written by a physicist and historian of science, probes this issue and offers a colorful look back on how cosmologists themselves have treated the theological implications of their work.
