The Women Scientists of Bologna
Eighteenth-century Bologna provided a rare liberal environment in which brilliant women could flourish

Until the twentieth century women rarely had access to higher education, and those that did were often discouraged from pursuing scientific careers. One important exception was a group of rare and remarkable women scientists and physicians who flourished in the liberal environment of eighteenth-century Bologna. The authors offer us short biographies of the most siginficant of these women.
