Biography

Robert W. Keyes received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago. After several years at the Westinghouse Research Laboratory in Pittsburgh, he joined the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. There he has engaged in research and development in physics and materials science related to modern optical and electronic technologies and their applications in electronics. He is currently a research staff member emeritus. Dr. Keyes has received an IBM Invention Achievement Award for eight issued patents and an IBM Outstanding Contribution Award in 1963 for participation in the development of the injection laser.
