Mark Elvin

Biography

Mark Elvin is Research Professor of Chinese History at the Australian National University in Canberra. He is the author of, among other books, The Pattern of the Chinese Past (Stanford, 1973) and The Retreat of the Elephants: An Environmental History of China (Yale, 2004).
